Chihayafuru tells the story of a girl named Chihaya who supports her sister’s model career until she is inspired by a classmate to take up Hyakunin Isshu karuta, a Japanese card game, competitively.  As she grows up, she becomes separated from her friends. Now a high school student, Chihaya continues to play karuta in the hope that she will be reunited with them one day. Chihayafuru has been adapted into an anime TV series on Nippon Television and remains an extremely popular manga series to this day.
